Σελίδα 277 - THIS noble and magnificent College, the Mastership of which is in the appointment of the Crown, was originally endowed by King HENRY VIII. and afterwards augmented by his daughter Queen MARY, for the maintenance of a Master, sixty Fellows, and sixty-nine Scholars. The government of the College is vested in the Master and the eight senior Fellows; and to such of these as are absent, the resident Fellows next in seniority succeed as deputies, without any express appointment.

Each college is a body corporate, bound by its own statutes ; but is likewise controlled by the paramount laws of the University. The present University Statutes were given by Queen Elizabeth, and, with former privileges, were sanctioned by Parliament.
