URDU: TRANSLATION.

REV. E. SELL,

I. A. Translate freely into Urdu :

I pause to think with admiration of the noble king who, in his single person, possessed all the Saxon virtues; whom misfortune could not subdue; whom prosperity could not spoil; whose perseverance nothing could shake; who was hopeful in defeat and generous in success; who loved justice, freedom, truth and knowledge; who, in his care to instruct his people, probably did more to preserve the beautiful old Saxon language than I can imagine; without whom, the English tongue, in which I tell his story, might have wanted half its meaning. As it is said that his spirit still inspires some of our best English laws, so let us pray that it may animate our English hearts, at least to this-to resolve, when we see any our fellow-creatures left in ignorance, that we will do our best, while life is in us, to have them taught, and to tell those rulers whose duty it is to teach them, and who neglect their duty, that they have profited very little by all the years that have rolled away since the year nine hundred and one, and are far behind the bright example of King Alfred The Great.-Dickens,

B. Translate the following into Urdu as clearly as the idiom will permit :

I. Friendship renders prosperity more complete and adversity more endurable. To say the truth, I was in fault. It would ill be. come me to find fault with your arrangements, They are constantly near wit without being witty, as his valet is always near a great man without being great. His fate has taught me a good lesson. Every little tells. My master put me off with fair promises. Let us split the difference. You begin a score of things without finishing any, The better the man is the more happy he lives.

2. Look up please. You look well. Look to your own business. I shall look after your garden. My windows do not look into the street. His faults ought not to be looked over. She looks forward to the pleasure of seeing you. The boy should look in to-morrow. You must look about you. I am on the look out for a house.

3.

Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathom'd caves of ocean bear:

Full many a flower is born to blush unseen

And waste its sweetness in the desert air.

By all means.

II. What Urdu words would you employ to express the following Take advantage of. To this effect. English idioms :-I had better. Out of the question. The long and the short of it is. Write sentences in English and Urdu to illustrate your answer. III. Translate into English :
