Short Method for Multiplying by 10, 100, 1000, etc. Rules. To multiply by 10, move the decimal point one place to the right. To multiply by 100, move the decimal point two places to the right. To multiply by 1000, move the decimal point three places to the right, and so on. Division of Decimals To divide one decimal by another, point off in the quotient a number of decimal places equal to the number of decimal places in the dividend minus the number of decimal places in the divisor.
