LATIN. 1. Translate into English :

GREEK. 1. Translate into English

(0) Give the genitive singular of χώρα, στρατιώτης, πέδιον, άνηρ, μισθοδότης, πατήρ, δύναμις, χείρ, πάθος, and the genitive dual and plural, respectively, of επιστολή, άγγελος, and βασιλεύς.

(c) Give the aorists of ελαύνω, πέμπω, μένω, φεύγω, έχω επαινέω, έρχομαι, τέμνω, τίθημι, ίημι and δίδωμι.

4. State what you know of the rules for the comparison of adverbs, and compare σοφώς, αισχρώς, άνω, κάτω, ευ, εγγύς, μάλα, πολύ and πρωί.

5. Translate into Greek :-
(a) Cyrus collected an army and besieged the city.
b) Cyrus stayed there five days.

Be not astonished that I am sorely troubled at the present state of things.

(d) It seems to me that it is not the time for us to sleep.

GERMAN.' (German words must be written in the English character.)

1. Translate into English

&r hatte eine junge Person geheirathet, eine stille, leidliche Natur. Sie versah ihr Geschäft gut und pünktlich, fte hing an ihrem Haugwesen, ste liebte ihren Mann; doch mußte sie ihn bei fid) im Stillen tadeln, daß er mit dem Gelde nicht sorgfältig genug umging. Das baare Geld nöthigte ihr eine gewisse Ehrfurcht ab; sie fühlte ganz den Werth desselben, sowie die Nothwendigkeit, sich überhaupt in Besitz zu seben, sich dabei zu erhalten. Dhne eine angeborne Heiterkeit des Gemüths hätte sie alle Anlanger. zum strengen Geize gehabt. Doch ein wenig Geiz schadet dem Weibe nichts, so übel sie die Verschwendung Kleidet. Freigebigkeit ist eine Tugend, die dem Manne ziemt, und Festhalten ist Tugend eines Weibes. So hat es die Natur gewollt, und unser Urtheil wird im Ganzen immer naturgemäß ausfallen.

FRENCH. 1. Translate into English :-

Mon malheureux frère n'avait pas besoin de cet ordre : dès le premier moment, il s'était dit qu'il n'avait plus qu'un devoir : retrouver sa soeur et son amie, dật-il, pour accomplir son entreprise, affronter mille morts. Il eût voulu seulement emporter avec lui comme un gage de succès, comme une consécration divine, la bénédiction de son père ; et loin de là, c'était sous le poids de l'anathème qu'il devait quitter l'auteur de ses jours, et courir le monde à la recherche de sa sœur chérie.
