RESOLUTIONS

OF THE

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT,

PASSED AT THE MAY SESSION, 1852.

At a General Assembly of the State of Connecticut, holden at New Haven, in said State, on the first Wednesday of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty

two:

INCORPORATING THE CONNECTICUT STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SEC. 1. Resolved by this Assembly, That Charles H. Pond, Robbins Battell, William A. Mead, Henry A. Dyer, David S. Fowler, James T. Pratt, Thomas Cowles, Ephraim H. Hyde, 2d, Charles Robinson, William P. Stone, Henry P. Havens, Edwin Newbury and William Holman, together with such persons as may hereafter become associated with them, be, and they are hereby incorporated, by the name and style of" The Connecticut State Agricultural Society."

SEC. 2. The object of the society being the improvement of agriculture, horticulture and the household arts, they shall be, and are hereby for those purposes made capable in law to have, purchase, receive, possess and enjoy to them and their successors, land, rents, tenements, hereditaments, goods,

chattels and effects of what kind and quality soever, necessary to give effect to the purposes of this society, and the same to sell, grant, demise, alien and dispose of, to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and be defended in all courts in this State or elsewhere.

SEC. 3. The said society shall have power to appoint such officers as they may deem expedient, and also to make, ordain, establish and put in execution such by-laws and regulations as shall be deemed necessary and convenient for the well ordering and government of said society, and not contrary to this act and the laws of this State and of the United States, and to do and execute all and singular the matters and things which to them may or shall appertain to do, subject to the rules and provisions herein above prescribed.

SEC. 4. This act may be altered, amended or repealed, at the pleasure of the General Assembly.

AUTHORIZING THE

COMPTROLLER TO AUDIT ACCOUNTS OF N. H MORGAN AND S. H. KEELER, FOR SERVICES AS COMMITTEE ON TOWN AND STATE PAUPERS.

Resolved, That the comptroller of public accounts be, and he hereby is authorized and instructed to audit the accounts of N. H. Morgan and S. H. Keeler, for services as a committee appointed by Legislature of 1851, to gather information in regard to Town and State paupers and report thereon.

NUMBER OF DIRECTORS OF THE MYSTIC RIVER BANK.

Resolved, That on and after the first Tuesday in August, 1852, the stockholders of the Mystic River Bank, at their annual meetings may elect seven directors instead of five, the present number.

BONUS OF THE EASTERN BANK OF KILLINGLY.

Whereas, the third section of the resolution incorporating the Eastern Bank of Killingly, passed by the General Assembly in 1851, provided that said bank should pay a bonus of one per cent. on all the capital stock paid in, to the treasurer of this State, for the support of the New Britain Literary Fund Company, and the same being intended for the New Britain Educational Fund Company, therefore

Resolved, That the bonus of the Eastern Bank of Killingly, payable to the treasurer of this State for the support of the New Britain Literary Fund Company be, and the same is hereby appropriated to the support of the New Britain Educational Fund Company.

AMENDING CHARTER OF THE BOROUGH OF DANBURY, AND CONFIRMING ACTS OF ASSESSORS OF SAID BOROUGH.

Resolved, That whenever the freemen of the borough of Danbury shall wish to lay a tax for the purpose of defraying the expenses and charges against said borough, and shall choose assessors for the purpose of making an assessment of the real and personal estate therein, according to the provisions of the charter of said borough, said assessors shall, within a reasonable time after their appointment, give notice, by posting a notification on the public sign-post in said borough and by publishing a like notification in a newspaper printed in Fairfield county, to all persons liable to taxes in said borough, requiring of them written or printed lists of all the taxable property belonging to such person or persons on the day of the date of such notice, with the particulars of all
