UNIT SYSTEM

of SCIENTIFIC

LAW REPORTING

Not An Expense
But a Dividend-Paying
Investment

THERE is nothing speculative or problematical
about the utility value, the practical value
and the lasting value of American Annotated
Cases (cited Ann. Cas.).

When you place Annotated Cases in your library

you make an investment that will pay big divi

dends in practical service value as long as you remain in practice. The yearly investment is small. Five volumes per year, only $5 per volume. In five years you will have 25 complete working units, in ten years 50 units, in twenty years 100 units. Each unit appreciates in value from year to year. You don't have to write off the cost of

in Ann. Cas. as you do with most all other law books. Ann. Cas. does not depreciate in value it gets more valuable every day. Why is this true?

Because Ann. Cas. is based on the lasting principle of law reporting the scientific system.

The great leading cases of to-day are the ones that rule the leading cases of to-morrow. Every case in Ann. Cas. is a leading case. Every case is annotated, thereby linking that leading case with the earlier ruling cases.

The Annotated Case System is a complete and perfect presentation of all the law of the land from the earliest times to date and is the scientific and only practical solution of the case law problem.

You can start your subscription to Ann. Cas. with any volume. Begin now with 1916 A. (The modern unit system of numbering.)

Only five volumes per year. The best law book investment for any one-no matter if you remain in practice only five years longer or ten or twenty.

The Present 27 Volume Guaranty on R. C. L. Expires June 30, 1916

NOTE: The successful editorial progress made in the preparation of the first twelve volumes of Ruling Case Law shows convincingly that the set will probably fill 30 volumes. Determined not to sacrifice completeness to any commercial need for condensation the publishers announce the coming withdrawal of the present 27 volume guaranty and the substitution of a 30 volume guaranty. In order that no one may be disappointed the date set for this change is June 30, 1916.

If you have not subscribed to Ruling Case Law is it because of one of these points?— (1) You wanted to wait until several volumes were out.

THEY ARE-eleven volumes can be delivered to you
immediately the twelfth is now on the press.

(2) You wanted to see if the courts would cite it extensively.
THEY HAVE so extensively that it already requires

a Booklet to contain the citations.

(3) You wanted to know that other good lawyers everywhere would buy it. THEY HAVE-over ten thousand subscriptions have already been entered.

Add to these answers the fact that the present guaranty of 27 volumes will of necessity be withdrawn June 30, 1916, and a 30 volume guaranty substituted and you have a combined money saving incentive to enter your subscription at once. Read the order form below and note that to-day the publishers agree to complete the set A to Z and Index in 27 volumes or furnish additional volumes free except for cost of delivery.

Quality and thoroughness considered, this work has no rival. Title for title, it devotes, on the average, more than three times as many pages, digests nearly twice as many cases, and contains more than four times as many citations, as are found in any other Digest of the U. S. Supreme Court Reports.

"The lawyer or judge wishes to find cases in point. The best help with that end in view that I have ever used is the Encyclopedia of U. S. Supreme Court Reports. It is superior to any Digest that has yet been published. I keep it constantly on my desk and use it daily."

Ruling Case Law

WILL PROBABLY FILL 30 VOLUMES

The Present Guaranty that the Number will

not exceed 27 Volumes expires June 30, 1916

Important Announcement to the Legal Profession

It is your interest as an inevitable owner of Ruling Case Law, rather than good business from a commercial viewpoint, which inspires this notice. It tells a story that any lawyer who buys books will do well to heed.

When Ruling Case Law was first announced it was expected that the work could be completed in twenty-five volumes of about twelve hundred pages each. Early subscribers for their prompt support of the undertaking received a guaranty that all volumes in excess of that number would be furnished free.

As the editorial work progressed, however, it was soon realized that the wealth of material to be found in the great annotated cases had been underestimated. Although the size of the volumes was materially increased it appeared that twentyseven volumes would be necessary to cover all titles adequately. The twenty-five volume guaranty, after notice given, was therefore withdrawn and only contracts calling for twenty-seven volumes have since been accepted.

Further editorial progress shows that this second estimate is too low, if the present style which emphasizes reasons, traces the source and development of the law, and discusses principles, a text which has made "R. C. L." unique among law books, is to be maintained. It goes without saying that the publishers and editors determined not to sacrifice completeness to any commercial need for condensation.

The number of volumes, therefore, must again be increased. Probably thirty volumes (including the index volume) will be required to finish the work. After June 30, 1916, the guaranty in all subscription contracts will be placed at that number.

The publishers make this announcement weeks in advance in order that those who have received the previous offers of a twenty-seven volume guaranty, and who have made up their minds to subscribe, will be in no position to complain when $19.50 is added to the price of a full set.

You will have Ruling Case Law in your library some day and will never again have this money-saving opportunity.
