ance to the widows and children of officers,
under an act, intitled, “ An act in addition to
the act for making further and more effectual
provision for the protection of the frontiers of
the United States,” the sum of one hundred
and fourteen thousand two hundred and fifty-
nine dollars.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the
several appropriations herein-before made,
shall be paid and discharged out of the funds
following, to wit: First, The surplus of the payabla
sum of fix hundred thousand dollars, reserved
by the act “ making provision for the debt of
the United States ;” and which shall accrue,
during the year one thousand seven hundred
and ninety-six: Secondly, The surplus of
revenue and income beyond the appropria-
tions heretofore charged thereupon, to the
end of the year one thousand seven hundred
and ninety-fix ; and, Thirdly, The furp lu
which shall remain unexpended, of the mo-
nies appropriated to the use of the war depart
ment, for the year one thousand seven hun-
dred and ninety-five.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the

President President of the United States be empowered of U.
