And to the end, that the laws providing for
the collection of the duties impofed by law on
goods, wares and merchandize imported into
the United States, and on the tonnage of ships
and veffels, may be carried into effect, in the
faid state of Tenneffee,

Collection

Sec. 4. Be it further enacted, That for the
due collection of the faid duties, the faid state
of Tenneffee fhall be one district, and a collec-
tor fhall be appointed to refide at Palmyra, diftrist.
which fhall be the only port of entry or
delivery within the faid diftrict, of any
goods, wares or merchandize, not the growth
or manufacture of the United States; and the
faid collector fhall have, and exercise all the
powers, which any other collector hath, or
may legally exercife, for collecting the duties
aforefaid; and in addition to the fees by law
provided, fhall be paid the yearly compenfa-
tion of one hundred dollars.

An Act granting a certain Sum of Money to the Widow and Children of John de Neufville, deceased.

E it enacted by the Senate and House of Reprefentatives of the United States of America, in Congress affembled, That in confideration of particular fervices rendered the United States, during the war of their revolution, by the late John de Neufville, of the United Netherlands, the President of the United States be, and he is hereby authorized to caufe to be paid, out of any monies which may be in the Treafury, not otherwife appropri ated, the fum of one thousand dollars to Anna

de Neufville, widow of the faid John de Neuf-
ville; a like fum for the use of Leonard de
Neufville, his fon; and a like fum for the use
of Anna de Neufville, his infant daughter.

An Act making Provifion for the further Accommodation of the Household of the Prefident of the United States.

empowered, to caufe to be fold, fuch articles furnished by the United States, for the Prefident's houfehold, as may be decayed, out of repair, or unfit for use, and that the proceeds of such sale, and so much of a fum not exceeding fourteen thousand dollars in addition thereto, out of the proceeds of the duties on. imports and tonnage which may accrue during the present year, as the President of the United States may judge neceffary, be, and hereby areappropriated for the accommodation of the household of the Prefident, to be laid out and expended for fuch articles of furniture as he fhall direct.

E it enacted by the Senate and Houfe of Reprefentatives of the United States of America, in Congress affembled, That whenever it fhall appear, by fatisfactory proof, to the Se- of Treafu cretary of the Treafury, that any fhip or veffel ry autho hath been fold and transferred by process of law; and that the regifter, certificate of en- tificates, rolment, or licenfe, as the cafe may be, of fuch tain cafes fhip or veffel, is retained by the former owners, it fhall be lawful for the faid Secretary, to order and direct the collector of the district to which fuch fhip or veffel may belong, to grant a new register, certificate of enrolment, or license, as the cafe may be, on the owners, under fuch fale, complying with fuch terms and conditions, as are, by law, required for granting of fuch papers; excepting only the delivering

of the former certificate of registry, enrol-
ment or license, as the cafe may be: Provided
nevertheless, That nothing in this act contained,
fhall be conftrued to remove the liability of any
perfon or persons to any penalty for not fur-
rendering up the papers, belonging to any fhip
er veffel, on a transfer or fale of the fame.
