BY FRANCIS WILLIAMS SANDERS, ESQ.
OF LINCOLN'S INN, BARRISTER AT LAW.
U Pon the publication of a Third Edition of this work, the Author thinks it necessary to state, that he has rather compressed the matter contained in the first chapter of the first volume relating to Uses before the statute, so as to render the points, which he has taken, more clearly understood; that he has considerably added to the second chapter of the same volume relating to Uses since the statute; and that the principal part of the third chapter relating to modern Trusts, will be found to be entirely new. In the second volume his chief attention has been to add to, and correct, the Precedents. With these alterations and additions, the result of some experience, the Author hopes, that the present edition of his Essay will not be unacceptable to the Profession.
Some references having been made to the second edition, the Author has preserved the paging of it. In those cases, where he refers in this edition to a subsequent page of the work, the reference is to the paging of the second edition; but where the reference is to a preceding page, it is to the paging of this edition.
