3. Give the essential characters of the following Natural 18 Orders, and enumerate the officinal plants which they respectively contain :

Menispermacea, Cucurbitacea, Convolvulaceæ, Scrophulariace, and Liliacea.

4. Describe the process of the British Pharmacopoeia for 15 the preparation of Acidum Hydrocyanicum dilutum, giving the decomposition, the strength of the acid produced, and the means of determining its strength and of testing it with regard to its purity.

5. State the botanical sources of the following sub- 22 tances, and also their Natural Orders and habitats :

treatment in each.

3. Contrast the conditions known as (a) Albuminoid or 25 Lardaceous and (b) Fatty Liver, in their pathological appear. ances, (1) on section, (2) under the microscope, (3) under the action of reagents.

4. What are the forms of Skin Disease due to the presence 15 of vegetable parasites? Give the names of the latter and the mode of treatment suitable to each variety.

5. A patient, after some unusual exertion, complains of pain 20 in the back, thigh, or testes, which varies in intensity. He suffers from vomiting and mental depression. The urine is found to contain oxalate of lime, with epithelial cells from the pelvis of the kidney. What is his disease, and what other conditions of the urine should you expect to find which would aid the diagnosis?
