=

5 per cent (5%), or 5 for every 100.05 150 or of every one or unit; 4 per cent (4%), or 4 for every 100= .04

or, etc.

[blocks in formation]

1. Let the pupil recite from the open book by line, thus: 1% of 225 is 1 one-hundredth (1) of 225, or 2.25; 1 of 2342 is 23.42; 1 of 25 is .25; 1 of 2 is .02; 1 of 412 is 4.12, etc.

[ocr errors]

etc.

of 412 is 41.2,

3. In this manner read the above by line and by column ; and then as miles, pounds, days, etc. Thus, 1% of 225 mi. is 2.25 mi.; 1% of 2342 mi. is 23.42 mi.; 1% of 25 mi. is .25 mi., etc. 10% of 225 mi. is 22.5 mi.; 10% of 2342 mi. is 234.2 mi.; 10% of 25 mi. is 2.5 mi., etc.
