DISQUISITIONS, &c.

After treating of our duty to the Gods, it is proper to teach that which we owe to our Country. For our Country is, as it were, a Secondary God, and the first and greatest Parent.---It is to be preferred to Parents, Wives, Children, Friends, and all things, the Gods only excepted.---And if our Country perishes, it is as impoffible to fave an Individual, as to preserve one of the fingers of a mortified hand.

N B. The first number of this useful and ornamental work, will be
published on wednesday the twentieth of September, 1775, at that
very remarkable Epocha, when the Americans laid down external
commerce, took up arms, and internal manufactures, to fupport their
conftitutional liberty against the defpotic encroachments of royal,
minifterial, and parliamentary Traitors; becaufe falfe delicacy then
vanished from royal names and royal things, as utterly infufficient to
varnish over criminal actions, although attempted by men that once
were, and might have continued majestick.
