Forthampton. Inspected February 19, 1849.-1. Mixed. Boys and girls in six
classes, under master, mistress, and monitors. 2. Good. 3. Simultaneous, collective,
and class. 4. Generally good. 5. Master untrained, with natural aptitude for teach-
ing; gradually introducing new methods of teaching. 6. Parallel desks erected during
past year. A very good rural school.

Shipton Moyne. Inspected February 13, 1849.-1. Mixed; under mistress. 2. Fair.
4. Three read with tolerable fluency, the others imperfectly. Arithmetic unskilful.
5. Mistress trained at Whitelands for two years (1845-6). This is her first school.
Deficient in skill. 6. A fair village school, with certain defects, which energy and
skill in the teacher would probably remove.

Chilvers Coton. Inspected January 30, 1849.-Instruction very imperfect. Informa-
tion and intelligence of the children low. Supply of books and apparatus defective.
Master untrained, without skill, and very ignorant. The great reduction in attendance
is attributed to the opening of an infant school.

Berrow. Inspected February 27, 1849.-1. A mixed school, under mistress, in three
classes. 2. Fair. 3. Confined to class-teaching. 4. Very elementary The children
are clean and tidy, and there is a good, wholesome tone about the school. The rei-
gious instruction is carefully attended to. The attendance is good. 5. The mistress,
who has received an imperfect education and is untrained, appears to be earnest in her
work, and to be careful in attending to the moral discipline of the children. 6. Venti-
lation imperfect.

Coleford. Inspected March 2, 1819.-1. Mixed. Five classes under a mistress.
4. The instruction very elementary. No secular reading-books. No writing from
dietation. Arithmetic very defective. Religious instruction very defective. Intelli-
gence of the children generally low. There is no religious instruction given to the
two lowest classes, consisting at present of 14 children. 5. Mistress is untrained.
6. Writing-desks along wall. No apparatus. Bibles torn and imperfect.
Forest of Dean, St. Paul's. Inspected March 2, 1649.-1. Four classes under master
and monitors. 2. Moderate. 4. Instruction generally moderate, in some respects
imperfect; deficient of books. 5. Master was at Newport for six months in 1845; is
deficient in skill. 6. Writing-desks along wall. Ventilation improved since last
visit.

Forest of Dean, St. Paul's, Girls'. Inspected March 2, 1849.-1. Girls under mistress
and monitors, in four classes. 4. No secular reading-books. Instruction generally
moderate-in some respects imperfect. Work good.

Gloucester, St. Michael's, Girls'. Inspected March 22, 1849.-1. Girls in five classes,
under mistress and monitor. 2. Not of a high order. 3. Two parallel desks at one end
of room. 4. Reading moderate. Religious instruction not sufficiently intelligent.

Writing from dictation confined to Brst class. Arithmetic imperfect. The fourth and
fifth classes do not use secular books at all. 5. The mistress appears to possess fair
natural abilities for teaching; is deficient in skill. 6. Deficiency of secular reading-
books. No maps.

Gloucester, St. Michael's, Infants'. Inspected March 22, 1849.-1. Infants under
mistress and assistant (aged 13 years), on infant system. The number in attendance
smaller than usual in consequence of great sickness in the town. The mistress is im-
perfectly trained, does not exhibit much skill in teaching (trained at Cheltenham four
months). This school was opened in June, 1848. The income and expenditure cannot
be returned, as it has not been in operation 12 months.

Newent, Boys'. Inspected March 26, 1849.-1. Five classes under master and moni-
tors. 2. Fair. 4. Religious instruction fair; instruction in other respects moderate.
Not-ading from secular books. No writing from dictation below the first class. Chidlren
are not instructed in principles in arithmetic. 5. Master untrained. 6. Deficiency of
books and apparatus. No maps.

Newent, Girls'. Inspected March 26, 1849.-Five classes under mistress and moni-
tors. 2. Fair. 4. Very elementary. No secular reading-books. 5. Mistress un-
trained. 6. Deficiency of books and apparatus.

Newent, Infants'. Inspected March 26, 1849.-Infants under an untrained mistress.
They appear to be in fair order.

Frampton-on-Severn, Boys'. Inspected March 21, 1849.-2. Not of a high order.
4. Moderate. The intelligence of the children not sufficiently exercised. 5. The master
untrained, Deficient in skill. Possesses natural aptitude for teaching. 6. Supply of
books and apparatus insufficient.

Frampton-on-Severn, Girls'. Inspected March 21, 1849.-2. Not of a high order.
3. Desks along wall. 4. Very moderate. The intelligence of the children not
sufficiently exercised. 5. The mistress untrained; she does not possess didactic skill.
6. The work good. Supply of books and apparatus insufficient,

Rissington, Little. Inspected February 16, 1849.-1. A very good village school.
2. The general tone excellent. 4. The religious instruction is very good. 5. The mis
tress appears to be very earnest in her work.

Redditch. Inspected March 12, 1849.-1. Four classes under mistress and monitors.
Parall-1 desks at one end of room. Great deficiency in books and apperatus. 2. Defective.
3. Confined to class-teaching. 5. Is deficient as a teacher and a school-keeper. 6. The
reading of the first class confined to Holy Scripture. Intelligence of the children very
low. Reading, writing, arithmetic, &e,, ill taught. Religious, instruction imperfectly
conducted.
