POWER CHAIN SAW SHARPENER

The preceding two photographs give a front and side view of the Gasoline Model Chain Saw Sharpener mounted on metal tripod ready for operation.

The Chain Saw Sharpener provides a readily transportable unit for the speedy sharpening of chain saw teeth. It is mounted on a substantial metal tripod easily adjustable to permit operation on any accessible terrain. The sturdy gasoline motor provides all the motive power necessary for the operation of the unit. The entire sharpener, including motor and tripod can be compactly packed in a specially designed chest furnished with each unit thus occupying a minimum amount of space.

The saw sharpener is so designed as to permit the sharpening of chain saw teeth according to the hook and face angle required for securing the maximum efficiency in cutting with the chain saw. Frequent and proper sharpening of the chain saw will prolong the life of the chain saw and increase its efficiency.

OPERATION SECTION

A. Description of Machine

The power chain saw sharpener consists of the grinder base, the grinder head assembly, and the gasoline motor, all three of which are mounted on a metal base which in turn forms the top for tripod mounting.

The above illustration identifies the head assembly and grinder base which forms the adjustable saw sharpening unit. Also identified is the gasoline motor which is bolted to the metal base by four bolts. The tripod legs are inserted in the joints on the underside of the metal base and made secure by simply turning until the legs are tightly affixed in the joints.

The head assembly and grinder base (illustrated above) are mounted on the metal base by means of a frame lock screw (also shown above). The head assembly is mounted on the grinder base by means of guide pins and center bolt.

Motive power is conveyed from the gasoline motor to the head assembly by means of a V-belt, the motor supplying the power for turning the grinding wheel in the head assembly at sufficient speed to sharpen the chain saw teeth when raised against it by elevating the adjustable portion of the grinder base by means of the elevating handle which is also identified in the illustration.

B. Machine Specifications and Details

The Power Chain Saw Sharpener is manufactured to comply with the specifications set forth in Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, Tentative Specification No. T-1277. The chest in which the unit is packed complies with Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, Tentative General Construction Specifica
