NEW EDITION OF BUTLER'S GEOGRAPHY.
A NEW INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRAPHY:
IN A SERIES OF LESSONS FOR YOUTH.
With an Appendix, containing Problems on the Globes, and Questions as
Exercises for Each Lesson
BY JOHN OLDINGBUTLER.
NINETEENTH EDITION, THOROUGHLY REVISED, PRICE 2s. 6d. CLOTH.
The present edition of “Butler's Introduction to Geography" has undergone thorough revision at the hands of an eminent Geographer. Without in any way altering its treatment of the subject-attested as the value of that treatment is by a lengthened course of usage in schools, and by the approval of experienced teachers-the Editor bas sought not merely to correct inaccuracies, which from various causes had crept into the text, but to engraft on it such additional information as lapse of time and altered political circumstances, as well as the continuous extension of geographical research, have rendered necessary. In the case of a subject so eminently progressive as GEOGRAPHY, such revision, at frequent intervals, is especially demanded. The altered political relations of Italy, Austria, Denmark, Germany, and other States of Europe, not less than the information which recent explorations have furnished respecting the Nile and other problems of African Geography, with the respective limits of the British Colonies in Australia and elsewhere, may be referred to as illustrations of this truth.
Considerations such as the above have guided the present Editor in the performance of his task; and, in the assurance that no effort has been spared to render this edition of “Butler's Introduction to Geography" as complete as possible, the Publishers hope for a continuance in its behalf of the favour which it has hitherto enjoyed as a popular class-book.
