THE SAVINGS BANK

A savings bank is a place where we may put the money we are able to save. Nearly every bank has a savings department.

When we put money in a bank we say we deposit the

money.

For example: If I say that I deposit $5.45 in the bank, I mean that I put $5.45 in the bank.

The money we have in the bank is called our account.

For example: If I have no money in the bank, and if I deposit $5.45 in the bank, my account amounts to $5.45.

The bank pays us for the use of the money we deposit in a savings account. The money paid is called interest.

The following shows the savings bank deposits of twelve pupils. Find the total deposits of each. What is the total of all the deposits?
