But, as an admirer of architecture, I cannot pass without notice the City-hall, for the costly magnificence of which we are probably indebted to that national taste for the substantial, which induced the Dutch ancestors of our New York burghers to erecthf at Amsterdam, a fabric, upon piles, which is justly ranked binong the first public edifices in Europe.
