Mr. Wharton presiding.

Senate met pursuant to the adjournment.

Prayer by Chaplain.

Members present: Messrs. Barnard and Wharton.

Mr. Barnard made a motion, which prevailed, that no quorum being present, recess be taken until tomorrow at 12 o'clock.

Roll call.

Members present: Messrs. Barnard and Hollett.

Mr. Hollett made a motion, which prevailed, that as there was not a quorum present, a recess be taken until Monday, January 15, at 12.30 o'clock.

Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Chaplain.

Roll call.

All members present.

Mr. Gormley made a motion, which prevailed, that a recess. be taken until 2.30 P. M.

Same day, 2.30 o'clock P. M.

Senate re-assembled at the expiration of the recess.

Mr. Gormley made a motion, which prevailed, that the following Resolution be concurred in and that the House be notified by the Clerk:

"HOUSE RESOLUTION

RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives, That the Senate be requested to meet with them, in joint session, Tuesday, January 16, 1917, at 11.30 o'clock A. M., for the purpose of attending the inauguration of the Governor."

Mr. Newton made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate proceed to ballot for a President Pro Tempore.

Mr. Barnard received 3 votes.

Mr. Gormley received 7 votes.

Mr. Hoffecker received 7 votes.

Another ballot was taken immediately with the same result, whereupon the presiding officer announced that no one was elected.

Mr. Hickman made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate take a recess until 10.30 tomorrow morning.

Prayer by Chaplain.

Roll call.

All members present.

Mr. Gormley made a motion, which prevailed, that Lieutenant Governor Lewis E. Eliason take the usual and proper oath of office.

The presiding officer appointed Messrs. Gormley and Walker to escort Mr. Eliason to the presiding officer's Chair. Chief Justice James Pennewill administered the oath of office to Lieutenant Governor Eliason, which follows:

"State of Delaware,

Kent County, ss.

I, Lewis E. Eliason, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Delaware, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of Lieutenant Governor of the State of Delaware, according to the best of my ability;

And I do further solemnly swear that I have not directly or indirectly paid, offered or promised to pay, contributed, or offered or promised to contribute any money or other valuable thing as a consideration or reward for the giving or withholding a vote at the election at which I was elected to said office..
