Mr. Walker made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate ballot for a President Pro Tempore.

Mr. Barnard received 3 votes.
Mr. Hoffecker received 7 votes.
Mr. Gormley received 7 votes.

The presiding officer declared that no one had been elected.

Secretary of State Hall, being admitted, presented to the Senate certain appointment, communications and recommendations from His Excellency, Governor Miller, which were received by the Senate.

Upon motion of Mr. Gormley, which prevailed, the Senate went into Executive Session.

Mr. Gormley made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate proceed to the Chamber of the House of Representatives. After assembling, Lieutenant Governor Eliason presided, and roll was called.

All members present.

Mr. Newton made a motion, which prevailed, that the Speaker of the House preside over the Joint Session.

Mr. Gormley made a motion, which prevailed, that the Joint Assembly now proceed to the Opera House to attend the inaugural ceremonies of Governor-elect Townsend.

After they met at the Opera House, the Speaker of the House called the Joint Assembly to order.

Prayer was offered by Reverend Doctor Briggs.

Mr. Walker made a motion, which prevailed, that the Resolution convening the two Houses be read by the Clerk of the Senate, which Resolution was as follows, viz.:

"RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives that the

Senate be requested to meet with them in Joint Session, Tuesday, January 16, 1917, at 11.30 A. M., for the purpose of attending the Inauguration of the Governor."

The oath of office was administered to the Governor-elect.

His Inauguration address followed.

At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Connelly of the House made a motion, which prevailed, that the Journals of the two Houses be read and compared, which was done and found cor

rect.

The benediction was pronounced by Reverend Warren Durr.

Mr. Culver made a motion, which prevailed, that the two Houses separate.

Mr. Hoffecker made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate take a recess until tomorrow morning at 12.30 o'clock.

Mr. Hoffecker made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate now proceed to the election of a President Pro Tempore.

Mr. Barnard received 3 votes.

Mr. Gormley received 7 votes.

Mr. Newton received 7 votes.

Another ballot was taken with the same result.

Whereupon the presiding officer announced that no one had been elected.

Mr. Hart made a motion, which prevailed, that the Senate adjourn until tomorrow at 12.30 o'clock.
