Under Chapter VII., I have introduced a method of elimination by Indeterminate Multipliers. This method was first given, I believe, by the celebrated LAGRANGE, in his Mecanique Analytique. I have given also, under this Chapter, an entirely new method of solving three simultaneous simple equations, which, from the peculiar process employed, may be called The Chequer-Board Method. Under Chapter VIII., I have also thought it not out of place to give a few examples immediately after Permutations and Combinations, on the Theory of Probabilities. Should these few Elements of Algebra be found to aid in elevating the standard of our Common School education, I shall feel that my object in preparing this book has been accomplished. GEO. R.
