PREFACE.

HE aim of this work is to furnish just so much of

THE

PLANE AND SPHERICAL TRIGONOMETRY as will suffice for the demands of our best schools and colleges. It is designed to be neither too elementary nor too voluminous, and yet to embody the latest developments of the science and the most approved modern methods of instruction. The work is believed to be adapted to the ability of the average pupil, and it is hoped will prove both intelligible and attractive to all, thus providing a discipline for the mind, and conducing to a delightful expertness hardly to be obtained in any other manner.

CHAPTER I treats of the nature and use of Logarithms. It contains necessary theorems, problems, corollaries, and scholiums, together with a sufficient variety of exercises to insure a speedy and thorough mastery of the subject.

CHAPTER II treats of the solution of Plane Triangles. In discussing the Trigonometric Functions, the author has
