Again, if the latitude of the ship is 47° N, and the declination 13° 30' N, the observation being taken at sunset, the true amplitude is W 20° N. This table may be used for any celestial body, the declination of which comes within the limits of the table. A complete set of tables containing the true amplitude for latitude parallels from 10° to 77o, inclusive, is incorporated in the Nautical Tables accompanying this Course, for the convenience of navigators engaged in coastwise navigation elsewhere than on the Great Lakes. These tables are to be entered with the declination at the top and the latitude at the side column. The amplitude found from these tables should be named the same as that found from Table II. |
