To CHARLES BUTLER, Esq.

DEAR SIR,

The ready permission which you gave me of sanctioning the following Work with your name, has greatly added to the many obligations for which I am already indebted to you. You have not only favored me with your fostering protection on my entrance into professional life, but have also kindly given your countenance to the first performance (humble as it is) which I have presumed to offer to the profession.

It would appear too much like vanity in me, to enumerate the frequent acts of kindness which I have received at your hands; but I cannot omit this opportunity of publicly assuring you, that amongst the many, who have had the great advantage of your instruction, and subsequent support and patronage, there is not one who is more grateful for those favours, than,

Dear Sir,

Your very obliged and faithful servant,

RICHARD HOLMES COOTE.
