When Sick or Wounded. 0 LORD Jesus Christ, Who by Thy purity and patience under suffering didst hallow earthly pain and give us an example of holy obedience to the Father's will: Be near me, I pray Thee, in the hours of weakness and pain; sustain me by Thy grace that my strength and courage fail not; grant me patience and heal me, if it be Thy will; and help me ever to believe that what may befall the body is but of little moment if Thou but hold my soul in life, O my Lord and Saviour, Who livest and reignest, etc. 52. When Sick or Wounded. LORD Jesus Christ, give unto me at all times a patient spirit, willing and ready to wait and pray, that I may not be weary of Thy chastening, but cast my burden upon Thee with all cheerfulness and confidence, knowing that Thou carest for me, and wilt sustain me; Who livest and reignest, etc. Amen. 53. CONFIRM, I beseech Thee, Almighty God, Thine unworthy servant in Thy grace; that in the hour of my death the adversary may not prevail against me, but that I may be found worthy of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord. For our Loved Ones. 0 LORD God, we humbly beseech Thee to bless and keep our kindred and friends, from whom we are separated in this time of war; and grant that, having been again united, we may be one in Thy praise, giving Thee thanks for all Thy mercies and tender care; through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord. EAVENLY Father, I know Thou art very near me, and in this hour wrong which I have done, and graciously to forgive me for Jesus' sake; give me courage and strength for this hour to go forward trusting wholly in Thee, that whether I live or die, I am Thine, with Thee, in Thy care, now and eternally. Amen. 56. After Battle. OUR UR Father, Who art in Heaven, Thou hast been my Help and Protection; I humbly give Thee my worship and thanks that Thou hast been with me and preserved me through these hours of danger and brought me forth again in safety; let me never be unmindful of these Thy mercies and help me to show forth, by a life devoted to Thy service, the fullness of my thankful heart; through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord. After Battle. 0 LORD God, Heavenly Father, from Whom without ceasing we receive exceeding abundantly all good gifts, and Who daily of Thy pure grace guardest us against all evil: Grant us, we beseech Thee, Thy Holy Spirit, that acknowledging with our whole heart all this Thy goodness, we may now and evermore thank and praise Thy loving kindness and tender mercy; through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only but to all those that love His appearing. Or: ALL flesh is grass and all the goodliness thereof as the flower of the field: the grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the word of our God shall stand forever. ND I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the taber shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. I THE COMMITTAL. ¶In cases of necessity, the Order may begin at this place. Chaplain: AM the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die. Or: IN the midst of life we are in death. Of whom may we seek for succor, but of Thee, O Lord, Who for our sins art justly displeased? Yet, O Lord God most holy, O Lord most mighty, O holy and most merciful Saviour: Suffer us not, at our last hour, for any pains of death, to fall from Thee. ¶Then shall be said: FORASMUCH as it hath pleased Almighty God to take out of this world the soul of our brother (comrade), we commit his body to the ground (deep), looking for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, through our Lord Jesus Christ.
