BY M. H. BARKER, ESQ. ("THE OLD SAILOR,")

Author of "Tough Yarns," &c. 3 vols., post 8vo.

"This author has already achieved so brilliant a reputation in this particular field of fiction, that it is unnecessary to enter into any lengthened critical analysis of his powers as a naval writer. In this work a vein of rich, genuine, full-flavoured humour abounds. The characteristic oddities-the native, ever-ready, and exuberant witthe indomitable courage-and the rough, sturdy honesty of heart, for which British tars have been ever celebrated—are delineated with an accuracy of portraiture, and a richness of colouring that has rarely been equalled, certainly never surpassed, by any of the most distinguished naval writers of the day.”—Sunday Times.

VI.

THE NAVAL CLUB.

BY M. H. BARKER, ESQ.

3 vols., post 8vo.

"We give a hearty welcome to our old friend, The Old Sailor,' whose yarns are excellent, and the very essence of nautical writing. No writer living is more at home or more genuine on the sea than Mr. Barker."-Literary Gazette.

IN ONE LARGE OCTAVO VOLUME, CLOSELY AND BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED IN DOUBLE COLUMNS,

A BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY

OF ALL

LIVING NAVAL OFFICERS,

BY

WILLIAM R. O'BYRNE, ESQ.

THIS truly national and important undertaking, which has long occupied the attention of the Author, will consist of authentic details of the Life and Services of every existing Officer in her Majesty's Navy, from the rank of Admiral of the Fleet down to that of the Lieutenant inclusively; comprising, with a Statement of his Family Connexions, every minute particular of his Professional Career--the Ships in which he has served-the Engagements in which he has distinguished himself-his Promotions, Appointments, and Rewards, -all with their accurate dates.

The utility of such a work requires no comment. It will not only form an important book of reference for all our Naval Officers, but must prove acceptable to the thousands of individuals who are either by the ties of consanguinity or friendship related to them. The gallant services of many a deserving officer, hitherto left in obscurity, will thus be brought to light, and a record preserved of those Naval Heroes who have so materially contributed to elevate this country in the scale of nations, and to shed an undying lustre on the British

name.

The Author, therefore, earnestly solicits all Officers, who have not as yet communicated information, to favour him, as soon as possible, with such particulars as will ensure accuracy in the arduous undertaking in which he is engaged; and, if they feel disposed to possess a Copy of the work, to signify their intention to that effect. Letters are requested to be addressed (post paid) to W. R. O'BYRNE, Esq., 9, Doughty Street, Russell Square; or to the Publisher,

"PEERAGE AND BARONETAGE.”

"In noticing the first part of this work, we spoke of the extraordinary labour and diligence which had been bestowed upon it, and its consequent value as an accurate history of the untitled aristocracy of England. It is, indeed, a remarkable monument of industry and research, and contains a mass of curious heraldic and genealogical information that can be found nowhere else. We have had an opportunity of testing its extreme correctness."-John Bull.
