It is intended especially to meet the need for a definite and complete interpretation of the Course of Study in Arithmetic prescribed by the Education Department of the State of New York. The series consists of two books. The "First Book " for years three, four, and five, is divided into half-year units, but within each half year the treatment is topical. The "Second Book" is a complete topical arithmetic, covering, in order, the Syllabus requirements for years six, seven, and eight. The following features of the "First Book" are worthy of attention: 1. The conservative modern treatment that exploits no hobbies. 2. The brief, clear, and definite instruction that carries the work by easy steps, at every stage, to some complete result. 3. The solutions that illustrate the more difficult rather than the easier instances in each case, thus giving help where it is most needed. 4.
