PRACTICE Is a Rule generally used in business, as a compendious method of performing the Rule of Three, when the first term is unity. It is performed by taking aliquot parts of the price, and dividing those parts into the given quantity. TABLE OF ALIQUOT PARTS.* 1st. When the price is less than a penny. 16 Take aliquot parts of a penny,-divide the quotient by 12, and by 20. This is the same as reducing farthings into pounds. * Aliquot means an exact part of a certain number-thus 1d. is an aliquot part of a shilling (one-eighth); but 13⁄44d. is not an aliquot part. Here, 3d. is the of a shilling, and 13d. is the of 3d. Here, 6d. is the of a shilling,-3d. is the of 6d.,-11d. is the of 3d.,-and d. is the of 1d. NOTE.
