Pioda, presiding, the Honorable Commissioners, the Agents for the United States and Chile, the Special Counsel for the United States, and the Secretaries. The minutes of the previous session were approved. GENTLEMEN: We have completed the work which, by limitation, had been left undone by the first Commission appointed according to the Convention of Santiago, and which, according to the supplementary Convention of 1897, has been intrusted to this Commission, in fulfillment of the hope expressed by my honorable predecessor in this chair at the end of the term of the prior Commission. Therefore I have the honor to declare closed the sessions of our Commission in conformity with the first paragraph of Article I of the Convention of 1897. Before leaving this seat I wish to offer, in the name of the members of the Commission, the expression of our grateful feelings to the Honorable Agents and Counsel of the high contracting parties, as well as to the gentlemen who successively acted as secretaries of this Commission, for the brilliant, zealous and courteous manner in which they have fulfilled their mission and their duties. In parting from each other I congratulate you, gentlemen, for having collaborated in this work of peace which, no doubt, will contribute in binding more closely together two generous nations, the friendship of both of whom my own country is happy to enjoy. Gentlemen, I am proud myself to have had the honor to be seated among you. Accept, with the assurance of my high consideration, my hearty good wishes and farewell.
