William, a little school boy, sold newspapers and magazines to earn money for his savings account. He sold afternoon papers for 2¢ each; Sunday papers

for 54; Saturday Evening Posts for 5¢; and other magazines for 10¢, 15¢, and 25¢.

The first week William sold newspapers only:

To find Monday's sales, say 5 times 2¢-10¢. Find the other sales in the same way.

1. Point to the pint measure; to the quart measure. Which is the larger?

2. Point to the pint milk bottle; to the quart milk bottle. 3. What things do we buy by the quart? The pint?

4. About how many glasses will a pint measure fill? Measure.

5. About how many glasses will a quart measure fill? Measure.

6. If you have a pint of lemonade, about how many glasses can you fill from it?

7. Fill the pint measure and pour the water into the quart measure. Is the quart measure full?

8. Pour another pint of water into the quart measure. Is it full now? How many pints are there in a quart?

2 pints (pt.) = 1 quart (qt.)

NOTE. The teacher should have on her table a bucket of water, the pint and quart measures, milk bottles, and other vessels.

48. Buying Milk in School or at Home

Dick and Mary drink milk at lunch and suppertwo glasses at each of these meals. Together they drink one whole quart bottle of milk at each meal.
