Example. Remitted from London a bill of 17051. 5s. Sterling, how many Guilders may be drawn for at Amfterdam exchange at 34 Schellings 4 Groats and a half Flemish Per pound Sterling?

What shall be drawn for at London, if there be paid at Amfterdam 17585 Guilders, 7 Stivers, and 13 Pennings, exchange at 34 Schellings, 4 Groats and a half, Per pound Sterling? Anf. £1705 5.

In Holland there are two kinds of money distinguished by the terms Bank and Current, fo that in the Course of bufinefs, negociating bills &c. it may be required to change one of these into the other, the difference of the two is called Agio and is generally from 3 to 6 Per cent in favour of the Bank.

Having a Bank fum given, to find its value in Current

money.

As 100 Guilders Bank: 100+ the Agio: the Bank given the Current required.

To Change Current money into Bank.

As 100+ the Agio: 100 Bank :: the Current money the Bank required.

Example. Change 297 Gu. 7 Sch. 8 Pen. Current money into Bank Guilders Agio 4 and three eights Per Cent. Anf. 380 Guil. 14 Sch. 3 P. and a half.

Change 380 Guilders, 14 Stivers, 5 Pennings, 1 Bank, into Current money, Agia 43 per cent?

N. B. London exchanges with Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Mofcovy, fome parts of Germany, Savoy, Switzerland &c. But as thefe exchanges are commonly negociated by way of Hamburg, Amfterdam, or Antwerp, the rule for Holland &c. is fufficient.

PLANTATIONS in AMERICA.

They reckon their monies and keep their accounts the fame way as in Britain, but their money is of less value. From any of the Carribee islands as St. Chriftophers, Montferat, Antigua &c. the exchange is 251. per cent in favour of London, and from Jamaica, Virginia, Maryland, Penfilvania, New England &c. the difference is commonly greater.

To turn any British fum into Plantation money, at any Rate Per cent.

As 100l. 100 + the rate per cent any fum: the Plantation money equivalent.

To turn Plantation money into British.

As 100+ the Rate of exchange Per cent: 100l.:: any Plantation fum: the British fum required,

If

If a perfon intended to travel pays down in London 24761. 18s. how much must he receive in Penfilvania exchange at 321. Per cent? Anfwer 31491. 10s. 1d.

How much Sterling money may be received in Whitebaven for 31491. 10s. paid in Maryland exchange at 321. Per cent? Anfwer 24761. 18s.

N. B. When the Rate of exchange is 251. Per cent add to any British fum one fourth of itfelf for Plantation money, and fubtract a fifth of the Plantation money from Plantation fum te turn it into British money.

Lendon exchanges alfo with Ireland at 8 and at par, the Courfe of exchange varies according to the demand of money or bills, and is between 41. and 151. Per cent in favour of London.

If a man pays 130l. 18s. red. Irish in Dublin what muft he receive at Whitehaven exchange at 81. and Per cent?

Here you may deduct one thirteenth from the Irish, to reduce it to English, and add one twelfth of the English to turn it into Irifh.

Comparison of Weights and Meafures.

HIS rule is effected by the fingle rule of three direct being a particular cafe thereof.

If 70 Dutch pence be worth 98 French pence, how

many Dutch pence are equal to 1260 French pence? As 98: 70 :: 1260: 900 the Anfwer.

Conjoined Proportion.

Y this rule Coin, Weight or Meafure, of feveral countries are compared with one another in the fa me question, either to find how many at the Last place are equal to a fixed number at the First, or how many, at the First place are equal to a fixed number at the Laft.

RULE.

Write down in two columns, all the relative terms, beginning at the First with the fign between as they occur, and put the odd term in that column where there is none of the fame name, then the continued product of the terms in that column where the odd term is, divided by the product of the terms in the other column, quotes the answer.

If 40lb. at London make 44lb. at Antwerp, and 125lb. at Antwerp make 132 at Frankfort, and 12 at Frankfort make 10 at Leghorn, how many pounds at London are equal to 144 at Leghorn?

abroad, with advantage, which is performed by Conjoined Proportion, thus.

Admit a Merchant hath effects at Leghorn to the amount of 2740 dollars, which he can remit by way of Lifoon at 900 rees per dollar and thence to London at 65. 6d. 1. per mitree, or by way of Lyons at 6 livres and per dollar, and thence to London at 33d. per crown, now it is required to arbitrate, thefe Exchanges, (i. e.) to choose that which is moft advantageous?

Here it may be obferved the difference is 131. 195. 1d. in favour of remitting by Lyons rather than by Lifton, which depends on the Course of, exchange at that time, but the Course may vary in that in a month's time by way of Lifton may be the better.

Hence appears the neceflity and advantage of an extenfive correfpondence in thefe kind of reinittances.
