Numerous examples should be worked on the black-board, the different aliquot parts being elicited from the scholars. On comparing the two methods of taking the aliquot parts, it will be seen at once that the second is much to be preferred to the first for shortness and simplicity. Example 5.--Find the value of 360 pairs of muslin curtains at 1 17s. 6d. per pair. The second method--by subtraction--is valuable only as a test of accuracy of working, and of the intelligence of the scholars. Note.--Children should always be encouraged to work their examples wherever possible by more than one method. Example 6.--If one man earns 1 19s. l1d. per week, how much will 769 men earn at the same rate?
