In presenting their first Volume to the public, the Editors of the "Quarterly Educational Magazine" are less anxious to make apologies, than to recall attention to their main object and design. They are sensible, indeed, that their work has many defects, and but few literary pretensions to recommend it. The candid reader, however, will make all due allowance; and it is hoped that such as seek to be instructed and informed will find in the following pages some valuable hints, and not a few useful and interesting facts. So far, two main objects of the work will be attained. Its originators and conductors have only to desire that their ultimate object—the Christian education of the people—may be accelerated by their humble endeavours, and receive from all quarters the sincere and hearty support to which its incalculable importance entitles it. If, twelve months ago, they felt the urgency of that object, the subsequent course of events may well have deepened the conviction: nor can they allow themselves, at this stage of their progress, to forego the opportunity of grounding an appeal on those events in favour of a thoroughly Christian and scriptural education.
