Two-Step Problems: Addition and Multiplication

(a) Edith bought 6 lb. of sugar at 7¢ a pound and a bottle of olives for 25¢. How much did she spend?

Multiply 7 by 6, and add 25 to the product.

(b) One week Henry sold from his garden a basket of string beans for $1 and 69 lb. of tomatoes at 6¢ a pound. How much did he make that week from his garden? Explain and work this problem.

5. Mr. White bought for each of his two children a doll costing $1.25 and a doll carriage costing $2.50. How much did he pay for all the presents?

6. Jane bought doz. eggs at 56¢ a dozen. She gave the storekeeper 50¢. How much change should she get?

7. Father bought 8 gallons of gasoline costing 21¢ a gallon. How much change should he get from a fivedollar bill?

8. John worked 20 minutes a day for 6 days. How many hours did he work in all?
