18 37 61 40 26 59 63 84 99 (b) Write on the board the numbers from 90 to 100. (c) The next number after one hundred is one hundred

one.

We write this in figures 101. One hundred two is written 102. Write on the board in figures the numbers from 101 to 109. Read these numbers.

(d) One hundred ten is written 110.

On the board, write the numbers from 100 to 199 in columns, starting like this:

100 110 120 130 140 150 160 170 180 190 101 111 121 131 131 141 151 161 171 181 191

(i) In this book find pages 125, 230, 198, 205, and 79. (j) Which number in example 12 is the largest? Which is the smallest? Rewrite the numbers in example 12 in the order of their value, starting with the smallest.

WRITTEN WORK

Write these numbers in figures:

1. One hundred two. 2. One hundred six.

3. One hundred ten.

4. One hundred forty-one.

6. One hundred eleven.
7. One hundred thirty.
8. One hundred seventy.
9. Five hundred six.
10. Five hundred sixteen.

5. One hundred sixty-six.

13. Make all the three-figure numbers you can with

5, 2, and 8. Which of these numbers is the largest?

14. Write the largest number that has 3 figures;

the smallest number that has 3 figures.

(b) Add the following examples at sight. Give the

answer only, as 10, 20, 30, and so on.

The numbers are written in a column as

shown at the left.

Start adding at the bottom.

Think: 10, 17, 20, 22, 30, 35.

The answer in addition is called the sum.
So the sum is 35.

WRITTEN WORK

Do not copy the examples. Place a strip of paper under the first row of examples. Add, starting at the bottom of each example, and write answers on the top of your paper. When the row is finished, fold over the row of answers, and place the paper under the second row, and so on.

Write these numbers in columns as shown.
Add the right-hand column first.

Start adding at the bottom.

Think: 10, 17, 20, 24, 30, 39. Write the right-hand figure of 39, 9, and carry the other figure, 3, to the next column. Start adding this column at the bottom. Think: 5, 10, 11, 20 and so on. The sum of this column is 36. Write 36. Read the answer: "The sum is 369."
