EVERYDAY USES OF ARITHMETIC

COMMON USES OF LARGER NUMBERS

1. The total expense of a class picnic was $28.90. There are 34 in the class. If they share equally, how much will it cost each?

2. A class is going to buy a picture costing $35. They have raised $28.88 by a "candy sale." There are 36 pupils in the class and they have decided to share the rest of the cost equally. How much will it cost each?

3. John had a garden from which he sold $44 worth of vegetables. The total expenses paid out were $10.72. He worked 52 hours. How much did he make per hour?

4. Frank bought a pig weighing 68 pounds. After it was fed $3.90 worth of feed it weighed 133 pounds. How much did each pound of increase in weight cost him?
