Whenever an article sells for less than a former price it is said to sell at a discount.

1. Frank's father wanted a car that was selling for $1450. The dealer offered him one that had been used 3 months for demonstration purposes, at a discount of 15%. How much would the used car cost him?

Without keeping a stock of goods on hand, agents for certain kinds of goods take orders for them and get a commission, or a certain per cent of the sales. Many boys and girls earn money in this way.

1. George took orders for brushes and got a commission of 40% of his sales. What was his commission on a floor brush selling for $1.25?

2. George sold Mrs. Roberts a lot of brushes. The total amount of the sale was $7.25. What was his commission?

3. During a single month he took orders amounting to $112.50. How much was his commission?

4. Emily took subscriptions for a book. One winter her orders amounted to $156. At a commission of 40%, how much did she earn?

5. Henry sold Saturday Evening Posts at 5¢ each and got a commission of 2¢ each. His commission was what per cent of the selling price?

6. Mary's father sold a house for $9500 through an agent, who charged him 21% commission. Find the agent's commission.
