The following is taken from the Report of the Principal:

"At the recent promotion examinations over 77 per cent. of the pupils who presented themselves for examination were successful, and about the same percentage in December last. "In November last, 10 pupils passed into the High School, and 16 more succeeded in passing at the examination in June, 1896.

"I feel especially grateful for the very thorough work performed by my assistants, and for the very generous help I have received from them from time to time. The efficiency of the school to-day is due to their untiring labours, each one of whom has proved an eminently successful teacher.

"During the past year our pupils have enjoyed special instruction in vocal music and gymnastics, each of which was in the hands of an able professional gentleman."

Early in the school-year the trustees made arrangements with Prof. Francis to drill the public school pupils in calisthenics, but this is now discontinued. Mr. J. B. Rushton continues to give great satisfaction by the manner in which he imparts instruction in vocal music.

Although the number promoted this term has not been as large as we could wish, I feel that the school is making fair progress notwithstanding the fact that we have to contend with much irregularity of attendance.

Owing to decreased attendance at this school, it was found necessary to dispense with the services of a monitor after September, 1896. The school is now under the charge of three teachers.

"The results of the Promotion Examinations in the lower divisions have been very satisfactory, especially in view of the fact that I have, for some time past, systematically raised the limit-tables term after term, with a view of ultimately bringing them into line with those of the cities. In this long-continued effort I have been ably seconded by my assistants."

The following is taken from the Report of the Principal:

"During the past year the attendance has increased so much as to demand the services of a Monitor, and I am pleased to say that an appropriation for the salary of one was made in the Estimates of the last session of the Assembly, but I regret to say that no provision was made for the erection of another room, consequently the Trustees will have to rent one which may not possess the required conveniences."
