The art of expressing numbers by figures or letters, is called NOTATION. Rule for Notation.- Write each figure in the order to which it belongs, and fill the vacant orders with ciphers. EXAMPLE. Write in figures, the number forty-five thousand and twenty-six. Put 4 in ten thousands' place for forty thousand; 5 in thousands' place for five thousand; 0 in hundreds' place, as there are no hundreds; 2 in tens' place for twenty; and, 6 in units' place for six: written, 45026.
