SIRE,

WHEN, in the year 1806, I contemplated the publication of the History of the Dormant and Extinct Baronage of England, your most August Father, his late Majesty, George III., was most graciously pleased, through the communication of that worthy Nobleman, the late Earl of Dartmouth (then Lord Chamberlain), to grant me permission to dedicate the Work to him; and when the same was completed, the respective Volumes were presented to His Majesty, by the present General Sir Herbert Taylor, and their receival very graciously acknowledged.

To the Supplemental Volume, published by me in 1825, your Royal Brother, the late King George IV., was similarly pleased to allow me to dedicate it to him.

It is therefore out of personal respect to your Majesty, and of gratitude for the patronage of your Royal Father and Brother, that I assume to dedicate to your Majesty this Appendix to the several former Volumes, whereby they are rendered complete to the present period; and I trust your Majesty will do me the honour to accept this small tribute of my attachment to yourself, and your Royal House.
