sang, vous n'aurez point la vie en vous-mêmes.

54 Celui qui mange ma chair, et qui boit mon sang, a la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

55 Car ma chair est véritablement une nourriture, et mon sang est véritablement un breuvage.

56 Celui qui mange ma chair, et qui boit mon sang, demeure en moi, et moi en lui.

57 Comme le Père qui est vivant m'a envoyé, et que je vis par le Père, ainsi celui qui me mangera, vivra par moi.

58 C'est ici le pain qui est descendu du ciel. Il n'en est pas comme de la manne que vos pères ont mangée, et ils sont morts: Celui qui mangera ce pain vivra éternellement.

59 Jésus dit ces choses enseignant dans la synagogue à Capernaüm.

60 Plusieurs de ses disciples l'ayant ouï, dirent entre Cette parole est dure; qui peut l'écouter?

61 Mais Jésus connoissant en lui-même que ses disciples mùrmuroient de cela, leur dit: Ceci vous scandalise-t-il ?

62 Que sera-ce donc si vous voyiez le Fils de l'homme monter où il étoit auparavant?

63 C'est l'esprit qui vivifie; la chair ne sert de rien: Les paroles que je vous dis, sont esprit et vie.

64 Mais il y en a quelques-uns d'entre vous qui ne croient point. Car Jésus savoit dès le commencement qui seroient ceux qui ne croiroient pas, et qui seroit celui qui le trahiroit.

65 Et il dit: C'est à cause de que je vous ai dit, que per

57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for

59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Caper

naum.

60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

63 It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, That no man can come

66 Dès cette heure-là plusieurs de ses disciples se retirèrent, et n'alloient plus avec lui.

67 Jésus dit donc aux douze : Et vous, ne voulez-vous point aussi vous en aller?

68 Simon Pierre lui répondit: Seigneur, à qui irions-nous? Tu as les paroles de la vie éternelle;

69 Et nous avons cru et nous avons connu que tu es le Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant.

70 Jésus leur répondit: Ne vous ai-je pas choisis vous douze? et l'un de vous est un démon.

71 Or il disoit cela de Judas Iscariot, fils de Simon; car c'étoit celui qui devoit le trahir, quoi qu'il fût l'un des douze.

CHAP. VII.

Jésus-Christ suivant ses frères en cuchette à Jérusalem, dispute avec les Juifs sur sa personne et sur sa doctrine.

PRÈS ces choses Jésus se

tenoit en Galilée; car il ne vouloit pas demeurer dans la Judée, parceque les Juifs cherchoient à le faire mourir.

2 Or la fête des Juifs, appelée des Tabernacles, approchoit.

3 Et ses frères lui-dirent: Pars d'ici, et t'en va en Judée, afin que tes disciples voient aussi les oeuvres que tu fais.

4 Car personne ne fait rien en cachette, quand il veut agir franchement. Puisque tu fais ces choses, montre-toi toi-même au monde.

5 Car ses frères mêmes ne croyoient pas en lui.

68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.

69 And we believe, and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

CHAP. VII.

Christ teacheth in the temple.

FTER these things Jesus

walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

2 Now the Jews' feast of taber nacles was at hand.

3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

10 Mais lorsque ses frères furent partis, il monta aussi à la fête, non pas publiquement, mais comme en cachette.

11 Les Juifs donc le cherchoient pendant la fête, et disoient: Où est-il ?

12 Et on tenoit plusieurs discours de lui parmi le peuple. Les uns disoient: C'est un homme de bien; et les autres disoient: Non, mais il séduit le peuple.

13 Toutefois personne ne parloit librement de lui, à cause de la crainte qu'on avoit des Juifs.

14 Comme on étoit déja au milieu de la fête, Jésus monta au temple, et il y enseignoit.

15 Et les Juifs étoient étonnés, et disoient: Comment cet homme sait-il les écritures, ne les ayant point apprises?

16 Jésus leur répondit: Ma doctrine n'est pas de moi; mais elle est de celui qui m'a envoyé.

17 Si quelqu'un veut faire la volonté de Dieu, il reconnoîtra si ma doctrine est de Dieu, ou si je parle de mon chef.

18 Celui qui parle de son chef cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l'a envoyé, est digne de foi, et il n'y a point d'injustice en lui.

19 Moïse ne Vous a-t-il pas donné la loi? et néanmoins aucun

6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him, for fear of the Jews.

14 Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth

de vous n'observe la loi. Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir? 20 Le peuple lui répondit: Tu es possédé du démon: Qui est-ce qui cherche à te faire mourir?

21 Jésus répondit et leur dit : J'ai fait une oeuvre, et vous en êtes tous étonnés.

22 Moïse vous a ordonné la circoncision, (non pas qu'elle vienne de Moïse, mais elle vient des pères,) et vous circoncisez un homme au jour du sabbat.

23 Si donc un homme reçoit la circoncision au jour du sabbat, afin

que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas violée, pourquoi vous irritez-vous contre moi, parceque j'ai guéri un homme dans tout son corps le jour du sabbat?

24 Ne jugez point selon l'apparence, mais jugez selon la justice.

25 Et quelques-uns de ceux de Jérusalem disoient: N'est-ce pas celui qu'ils cherchent à faire mourir?

26 Et le voilà qui parle librement, et ils ne lui disent rien. Les chefs auroient-ils en effet reconnu qu'il est véritablement le Christ?

27 Mais nous savons d'où est celui-ci; au lieu que quand le Christ viendra, personne ne saura d'où il est.

28 Et Jésus crioit à haute voix dans le temple, en enseignant, et il disoit Vous me connoissez, et vous savez d'où je suis. Je ne suis pas venu de moi-même; mais celui qui m'a envoyé est véritable, et vous ne le connoissez point.

29 Mais moi je le connois; car je viens de sa part, et c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.

30 Ils cherchoient donc à se saisir de lui; mais personne ne mit la main sur lui, parceque son beure n'étoit pas encore venue.

the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers ;) and ye on the sabbath-day circumcise a man.

23 If a man on the sabbath-day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath-day?

24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is; but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent

me.

30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet

come.

31 Cependant plusieurs du peuple crurent en lui, et disoient: Quand le Christ viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que n'en fait celui-ci ?

32 Les Pharisiens ayant appris ce que le peuple disoit sourdement de lui, envoyèrent, de concert avec les principaux sacrificateurs, des sergens pour se saisir de lui. 33 Jésus continuant à parler au peuple, lui dit: Je suis encore avec vous pour un peu de tems; puis je m'en vais à celui qui m'a envoyé.

34 Vous me chercherez, et vous ne me trouverez point; et vous ne pourrez venir où je serai.

37 Le dernier et le grand jour de la fête, Jésus se trouva-là, et dit à haute voix: Si quelqu'un a soif, qu'il vienne à moi, et qu'il boive.

38 Qui croit en moi, des fleuves d'eau vive couleront de lui, comme l'écriture le dit:

39 (Or il disoit cela de l'Esprit que devoient recevoir ceux qui croiroient en lui; car le Saint-Esprit n'avoit pas encore été donné, parceque Jésus n'étoit pas encore glorifié.)

40 Plusieurs de la troupe ayant entendu ces paroles, disoient: Celui-ci est véritablement le prophète.

41 D'autres disoient: Celui-ci est le Christ. Et quelques autres

31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, 'When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
