découvert, ils le menèrent à Césarée, et l'envoyèrent à Tarse.

31 Cependant les églises étoient en paix par toute la Judée, la Galilée, et la Samarie, étant édifiées et marchant dans la crainte du Seigneur; et elles étoient multipliées par la consolation du SaintEsprit.

32 Il arriva, comme Pierre les visitoit toutes, qu'il vint aussi vers les Saints qui demeuroient à Lydde.

33 Et il y trouva un homme, nommé Enée, qui étoit couché dans un petit lit depuis huit ans, et qui étoit paralytique.

34 Et Pierre lui dit: Enée, Jésus, qui est le Christ, te guérit: Lève-toi, et accommode ton lit. Et incontinent il se leva.

35 Et tous ceux qui demeuroient à Lydde et à Saron le virent, et ils se convertirent au Seigneur.

36 Il y avoit aussi à Joppé une certaine femme qui étoit des disciples, nommée Tabitha, c'est-àdire en Grec: Dorcas, laquelle étoit remplie de bonnes œuvres, et qui faisoit beaucoup d'aumô

nes.

37 Elle tomba malade en ce tems-là, et elle mourut. Et après l'avoir lavée, ils la mirent dans une chambre haute.

38 Et comme Lydde étoit près de Joppé, les disciples ayant appris que Pierre y étoit, ils envoyèrent vers lui deux hommes, pour le prier de venir chez eux sans tarder.

39 Pierre donc se leva, et s'en alla avec eux. Et lorsqu'il fut arrivé, ils le menèrent à la chambre haute; et toutes les veuves se présentèrent à lui en pleurant, et en lui montrant combien Dorcas

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

33 And there he found a certain man, named Eneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

34 And Peter said unto him, Eneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole; arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

35 And all that dwelt in Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas : this WOman was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did.

37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose, and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which

41 Et Pierre lui donnant la main la leva; et ayant appelé les Saints et les veuves, il la leur présenta vivante.

42 Cela fut connu de toute la ville de Joppé; et plusieurs crurent au Seigneur.

43 Et Pierre demeura plusieurs jours à Joppé, chez un certain Simon, corroyeur.

CHAP. X.

Conversion de Corneille et d'autres Gentils par Pierre.

IL y avoit à Césarée un homme

nommé Corneille, centenier d'une compagnie de la légion appelée Italique:

2 Il étoit religieux et craignant Dieu, lui et toute sa famille, faisant aussi beaucoup d'aumônes au peuple, et priant Dieu continuellement.

3 Il vit clairement dans une vision, environ la neuvième heure du jour, un ange de Dieu, qui vint à lui, et lui dit: Corneille:

4 Et Corneille ayant les yeux attachés sur lui, et tout effrayé; dit: Qu'y a-t-il, Seigneur? Et lange lui dit: Tes prières et tes

aumônes sont montées en mémoire devant Dieu.

5 Envoie donc présentement des gens à Joppé, et fais venir Simon, qui est surnommé Pierre.

6 Il est logé chez un certain Simon corroyeur, qui a sa maison,

40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed: and turning him to the body, said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up: and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa, with one Simon a tanner,

Peter's vision, &c.

THERE was a certain man in Cesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

3 He saw in a vision evidently, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter.

6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea

8 Et leur ayant tout raconté, il les envoya à Joppé.

9 Le lendemain, comme ils étoient en chemin, et qu'ils approchoient de la ville, Pierre monta sur le haut de la maison, environ la sixième heure, pour prier.

10 Et ayant faim, il voulut prendre son repas; et comme on le lui apprêtoit, il lui survint un ravissement d'esprit.

11 Il vit le ciel ouvert, et un vaisseau qui descendoit sur lui, comme une grande nappe, liée par les quatre coins, et qui s'abaissoit sur la terre;

12 Dans lequel il y avoit de toutes sortes d'animaux terrestres à quatre pieds, et de bêtes sauvages, de reptiles, et d'oiseaux du ciel.

13 Et il y eut une voix qui lui dit Pierre, lève-toi, tue et mange.

14 Mais Pierre répondit: Non, Seigneur; car je n'ai jamais rien mangé d'impur ou de souillé.

15 La voix lui parlant encore pour la seconde fois, lui dit: Ne regarde pas comme souillé ce que Dieu a purifié.

16 Et cela arriva par trois fois; après quoi le vaisseau fut retiré dans le ciel.

17 Comme Pierre étoit en peine de ce que pouvoit signifier cette vision qu'il avoit eue; les hommes envoyés de la part de Corneille, s'étant informés de la

7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to. pray, about the sixth hour:

10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet, knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth;

12 Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean,

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common,

16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

17 Now when Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for

20 C'est pourquoi lève-toi, et descends, et t'en va avec eux, sans en faire difficulté; car c'est moi qui les ai envoyés.

21 Pierre étant donc descendu vers ces hommes qui lui étoient envoyés de la part de Corneille, leur dit: Me voici, je suis celui que vous cherchez: Pour quel sujet êtes-vous venus?

22 Ils lui dirent: Corneille, centenier, homme juste et craignant Dieu, et à qui toute la nation des Juifs rend un bon témoignage, a été averti de Dieu par un saint ange, de te faire venir dans sa maison, pour entendre ce que tu lui diras.

23 Pierre les ayant donc fait entrer, les logea; et le lendemain il s'en alla avec eux, et quelques-uns des frères de Joppé l'accompagnèrent.

24 Le jour suivant ils entrèrent à Césarée. Or Corneille les attendoit, avec ses parens et ses plus intimes amis, qu'il avoit assemblés chez lui.

25 Et comme Pierre entroit, Corneille alla au devant de lui, et se jetant à ses pieds, il l'adora.

26 Mais Pierre le releva, lui disant: Lève-toi, je ne suis qu'un homme non plus que toi.

27 Et s'entretenant avec lui, il entra, et trouva plusieurs personnes qui étoient là assemblées.

28 Et il leur dit: Vous savez qu'il n'est pas permis à un Juif

20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel, to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

24 And the morrow after they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also

am a man.

27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful

30 Alors Corneille lui dit: Il y a maintenant quatre jours que j'étois en jeûne et en prières dans ma maison, à la neuvième heure, et tout d'un coup un homme vêtu d'une habit resplendissant se présenta devant moi;

31 Et me dit: Corneille, ta prière est exaucée, et Dieu s'est souvenu de tes aumônes.

32 Envoie donc à Joppé, et fais venir Simon, surnommé Pierre; il est logé dans la maison de Simon le corroyeur, près de la mer; quand il sera venu, il te parlera.

33 C'est pourquoi j'ai incontinent envoyé vers toi; et tu as bien fait de venir. Nous voici donc tous maintenant présens devant Dieu, pour entendre ce que Dieu t'a commandé de nous dire.

34 Alors Pierre prenant la parole, dit: En vérité je reconnois que Dieu n'a point d'égard à l'apparence des personnes;

35 Mais qu'en toute nation, celui qui le craint et qui s'adonne à la justice lui est agréable.

36 C'est ce qu'il a fait entendre aux enfans d'Israël, en leur annonçant la paix par Jésus-Christ, qui est le Seigneur de tous.

37 Vous savez ce qui est arrivé dans toute la Judée, et qui a commencé par la Galilée, après le baptême que Jean a prêché:

thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for. I ask therefore, for what intent ye have sent for me?

30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house; and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon whose surname is Peter: he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the sea side; who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ; (he is Lord of all ;)

i 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached :
