32 Et nous aussi, nous Vous annonçons, qu'à l'égard de la promesse qui avoit été faite à nos pères,

33 Dieu l'a accomplie pour nous qui sommes leurs enfans, lorsqu'il a suscité Jésus; comme il est écrit dans le second pseaume: Tu es mon fils, je t'ai engendré aujourd'hui.

34 Et pour montrer qu'il l'a ressuscité des morts, pour ne devoir plus retourner au sépulcre, fl a parlé ainsi: Je vous tiendrai fidèlement les promesses sacrées que j'ai faites à David.

35 C'est pourquoi il dit aussi dans un autre endroit: Tu ne

permettras point que ton Saint sente la corruption.

36 Car pour David, après avoir servi en son tems aux desseins de Dieu, il est mort, et a été mis avec ses pères, et il a senti la corruption.

37 Mais celui que Dieu a ressuscité, n'a point senti la corruption.

38 Sachez donc, mes frères, que c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée;

39 Et que c'est par lui, que tous ceux qui croient sont justifiés de toutes les choses dont vous n'avez pu être justifiés par la loi de Moïse.

40 Prenez donc garde qu'il ne vous arrive ce qui a été dit dans les prophètes:

41 Voyez, vous qui me méprisez, et soyez étonnés, et pâlissez d'effroi; car je vais faire une œuvre en vos jours; une œuvre que vous ne croirez point, si quelqu'un vous la raconte.

32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the proImise which was made unto the fathers,

33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption :

37 But he whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

39 And by him, all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken of in the prophets;

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

42 And when the Jews were

43 Et quand l'assemblée fut séparée, plusieurs Juifs et Prosélytes, craignant Dieu, suivirent Paul et Barnabas, qui les exhortèrent à persévérer dans la grace de Dieu.

44 Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s'assembla pour éntendre la parole de Dieu.

45 Mais les Juifs voyant la foule, furent remplis d'envie, et s'opposoient à ce que Paul disoit, en contredisant et en blasphè

mant.

46 Alors Paul et Barnabas leur dirent hardiment: C'étoit bien à vous les premiers qu'il falloit annoncer la parole de Dieu; mais puisque vous la rejetez, et que vous vous jugez vous-mêmes indignes de la vie éternelle, voici, nous nous tournons vers les Gentils.

47 Car le Seigneur nous l'a ainsi commandé, quand il a dit: Je t'ai établi pour être la lumière des Gentils, afin que tu sois leur salut jusqu'aux extrémités de la

terre.

48 Les Gentils entendant cela, s'en réjouissoient, et donnoient gloire à la parole du Seigneur; et tous ceux qui étoient destinés à la vie éternelle crurent.

49 Ainsi la parole du Seigneur se répandoit par tout le

pays.

50 Mais les Juifs animèrent quelques femmes dévotes et de qualité, et les Principaux de la ville, et ils excitèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabas, et les chassèrent de leur pays.

51 Mais Paul et Barnabas

43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

44 And the next sabbath-day came almost the whole city together, to hear the word of God.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord and as many as were ordained to eternal life, believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust

rivés à Icone, entrèrent ensemble dans la synagogue des Juifs, et ils parlèrent de telle sorte, qu'il y eut une grande multitude de Juifs et de Grecs qui crurent.

2 Mais les Juifs incrédules excitèrent et irritèrent les esprits des Gentils contre les frères.

3 Paul et Barnabas demeurèrent cependant là assez longtems, parlant hardiment du Seigneur, qui rendoit témoignage à la parole de sa grace, en faisant par leurs mains des prodiges et des miracles.

4 Mais le peuple de la ville fut partagé; et les uns étoient pour les Juifs, et les autres pour les apôtres.

5 Et comme il se fit une émeute des Gentils et des Juifs, avec leurs principaux chefs, pour outrager les apôtres et pour les lapider ;

6 Eux l'ayant appris, s'enfuirent aux villes de Lycaonie, savoir à Lystre et à Derbe, et au pays d'alentour:

CHAP. XIV.

Paul healeth a cripple at Lystra.

AND it came to pass in Ico

nium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude, both of the Jews and also of the Greeks, believed.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil-affected against the brethren.

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by

their hands.

9 Il entendit parler Paul, qui ayant arrêté les yeux sur lui, et voyant qu'il avoit la foi pour être guéri,

10 Dit à haute voix: Lève-toi, et tiens-toi droit sur tes pieds. Et il se leva en sautant, et il marcha.

11, Et le peuple ayant vu ce que Paul avoit fait, s'écria et dit en langue Lycaonienne : Des Dieux, ayant pris une forme humaine, sont descendus vers nous.

12 Et ils appeloient Barnabas Jupiter, et Paul Mercure; parceque c'étoit lui qui portoit la parole.

13 Et même le sacrificateur de Jupiter, qui étoit à l'entrée de leur ville, vint avec des taureaux et des couronnes, et vouloit leur sacrifier avec la multitude.

14 Mais les apôtres Barnabas et Paul l'ayant appris déchirèrent leurs vêtemens, et se jetèrent au milieu de la foule, en s'écriant,

15 Et disant: Hommes, pourquoi faites-vous cela? Nous ne sommes que des hommes, sujets aux mêmes infirmités que vous; et nous vous annonçons, qu'en quittant ces choses vaines, vous vous convertissiez au Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, la terre, et la mer, et toutes les choses qui y sont;

16 Qui dans les tems passés a laissé marcher toutes les nations dans leurs voies;

17 Quoiqu'il n'ait point cessé de donner des témoignages de ce qu'il est, en nous faisant du bien, en nous envoyant les pluies du ciel, et les saisons fertiles, en nous donnant la nourriture avec abondance, et en remplissant nos coeurs de joie.

18 Et en disant cela, à peine

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us, in the likeness of

men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you, that ye should turn from these vanities, unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own

ways.

17 Nevertheless, he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

18 And with these sayings

19 Alors quelques Juifs survinrent d'Antioche et d'Icone, qui gagnèrent le peuple, en sorte qu'ayant lapidé Paul, ils le trainèrent hors de la ville, croyant qu'il étoit mort.

20 Mais les disciples s'étant assemblés autour de lui, il se leva et rentra dans la ville, et le lendemain il s'en alla avec Barnabas à Derbe.

21 Et après avoir annoncé l'évangile dans cette ville-là, et y avoir fait plusieurs disciples, ils retournèrent à Lystre, à Icone, et à Antioche;

22 Fortifiant l'esprit des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et leur représentant, que c'est par plusieurs afflictions qu'il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.

23 Et après avoir prié et jeûné, ils établirent des anciens dans chaque église, et ils les recommandèrent au Seigneur, en qui ils avoient cru.

24 Puis ayant traversé la Pisidie, ils vinrent en Pamphylie.

25 Et ayant annoncé la parole à Perge, ils descendirent à Attalie.

26 Et de là ils s'embarquèrent pour Antioche, d'où ils étoient partis, après avoir été recommandés à la grace de Dieu, pour l'oeuvre qu'ils avoient accomplie.

27 Et quand ils furent arrivés, et qu'ils eurent assemblé l'église, ils racontèrent toutes les choses que Dieu avoit faites par eux, et comment il avoit ouvert aux Gentils la porte de la foi.

28 Et ils demeurèrent là longtems avec les disciples.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.
