What are practical rules for deducting certain allowances made on goods, in buying and selling by weight, called? A. Tare and Trett.

What is the whole weight of goods, including external package, called? A. Gross weight.

What is an allowance for the weight of the external package, called? A. Tare.

What is an allowance of one pound on every 26 for waste, dust, &c. called? A. Trett.

What is an allowance of one pound, on every 16, to retailers, for the turn of the scale, called? A. Cloff.

What is that which remains after a part of the allowance has been made, called A. Suttle.

What is that which remains after all allowances are made, called? A. Neat Weight.

When tare is so much per box, barrel, or bag, &c. what is the rule? A. Multiply the tare of 1 by the number of bales, barrels, &c. and subtract the product from the gross.

What is that which remains called? A. The neat weight.

When trett is allowed with the tare; how do you find the tare? A. As before.

What do you divide the remainder or suttle by? A. 26.
What will the quotient be? A. Trett.

How do you proceed next? A. Subtract the trett from the

suttle.

What will the remainder be? A. Neat weight.

In 495 cwt. 1 qr. gross, tare 28 lbs. per cwt., and trett 4 Ibs. per 104 lb., what is the neat weight?

CASE IV.

When Trett, Tare, and Cloff, are allowed; how do you deduct the Tare and Trett ? A. As before.

What will the quotient be?

How do you proceed next? A. Subtract the Cloff from the Suttle, the remainder will be the neat weight.
