28. A man had a number of workmen employed. He gave each as many shillings as there were workmen, and had 12 shillings left. If he had given them one shilling a-piece more, he would have had only 6 left. How many workmen were there?

29. A man with his wife and child dined together at an inn. The landlord charged one shilling for the child, and for the woman he charged as much as for the child and as much as for the man. How much did he charge for the man and his wife; supposing he charged as much for the man as he did for his wife and child both?
