An Act to exempt Firemen in Cities from the payment of Statute Labour Tax. [ 30th August, 1851. ]

E it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and intituled, An Act to re-unite the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, and for the Government of Canada, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this Act, it shall and may be lawful for the Municipal Corporation of any City within this Province, by any By-law, to enact and provide, that when any Member of any Company of Firemen which is or may be regularly enrolled in such City wherein the formation of Companies of Firemen is by law authorized and regulated, has regularly and faithfully served for the space and term of seven years consecutively in the same, the said Member shall be entitled to receive, upon producing due proof of his having served seven years consecutively as aforesaid, a Certificate from the Clerk of the Common Council of the City in which he resides, or the Clerk of the Corporate Body under whose authority the said Company shall have been established, that he has been regularly enrolled and served as a Member of the said Fire Company for the space of seven years, which Certificate shall exempt the individual named therein from the payment of any personal Statute Labour Tax thereafter, and from serving as a Juror on the trial of any cause in any Court of Law within this Province; any law, custom or usage to the contrary notwithstanding.
