LUKE 16, 9. Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when [sye fail] it [`hath failed] ['faílethỷ, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

The SINAI reads

The RECEIVED TEXT-
The VATICAN—

The ALEXANDRIAN

["faileth

that, when it hath failed, they may receive you
that, when ye fail, they may receive you
that, when it hath failed, they may receive you
that, when it faileth, they may receive you

The NEW REVISION adopts the S V (A) reading, but translates—

Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.

The ready comparison of the various readings, at a glance, without stopping, is obvious. For example, while reading the Sinai, we notice that the V and A agree with the original Manuscript in not having the Rec. reading \'ye fail], and all three, S V A, have, instead, the third person it; but the form and tense of the verb fail differ, the original manuscript agreeing with m having hath failed, while a later scribe of has altered it to "faileth, which is the A reading. It has taken time and words to describe this; it is all seen in an instant. For full explanations, see pages VIII, XII, XIV.
