11. Style Manual for printing.-A Style Manual of the Government Printing Office, prepared under the direction of the Public Printer, will be found useful in any office. The Manual contains a guide to capitalization of words pertaining to Government activities, titles of railroads, a list of States, Territories, and counties, a comprehensive list of compound words, and other useful information.

This publication may be obtained on application to the Quartermaster General.

12. Suggestions for the preparation of copy for printing and the editing of proofs.-The following suggestions are contained in the Style Manual of the Government Printing Office. While intended primarily for material being sent to the Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C., they will be found of value in editing material for printing elsewhere.

Copy should be edited in accordance with the style laid down in the Style Manual before being sent to the Government Printing Office. Editing should not be done on proof sheets.

Copy should be sent flat, numbered consecutively, typewritten if possible, unless reprint, and each page should begin with a paragraph, as the passing of "run downs" is an expensive operation.

The Government Printing Office style must be followed in department printing in all cases.
