ON ARTICLES IMPORTED INTO THIS COLONY UNDER THE ACT OF PARLIAMENT, 8 AND 9 VIC., C. 93, INTITULED "AN "ACT TO REGULATE THE TRADE OF BRITISH POSSESSIONS "ABROAD." Enacted 6th June, 1847, published the 6th January, 1848, WHEREAS, by an Act passed in the Session of Parliament, holden in the ninth and tenth years of the Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled "An Act to enable the Legislatures of certain "British Possessions to reduce or repeal certain Duties of Customs;" After reciting that whereas by an Act passed in the Session of Parliament, holden in the eighth and ninth year of the Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled "An Act to Regulate the Trade of the "British Possessions Abroad," certain Duties of Customs set forth in a certain table in the said Act contained were imposed upon the importation into any of the British Possessions in America, or into the Island of Mauritius, of the several articles therein mentioned, not being the growth, produce, or manufacture of the United Kingdom, or of the British Possessions, therein enumerated, and a certain duty of ten pounds for every one hundred pounds of the value thereof thereof was imposed upon the importation thereinto of certain Sugar refined in bond in the United Kingdom: And, after reciting that whereas by the said Act, it was enacted that all laws, bye-laws, usages, or customs, which should be in practice, or endeavoured or pretended to be in force or practice, in any of the British Possessions in America, which were in any wise repugnant to the said Act, or to any Act of Parliament made or to be made in the United Kingdom, so far as such Act should relate to and mention the said Possession, were and should be null and void to all intents and purposes whatsoever And, after reciting that whereas it was expedient to enable the Legislatures or other proper Legislative Authorities in the said British Possessions, with the assent of Her Majesty in Council, to reduce or repeal all or any of such Duties of Customs as aforesaid, so far as the same might be in force in such Possessions respectively: It was therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in that present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, that if and whenever the Legislature or other proper Legislative Authority of any of the said British Possessions in America or the Mauritius should make or pass any Act or Ordinance, Acts or Ordinances, reducing or repealing all or any of the said Duties of Customs so imposed as aforesaid, by the said therein recited Act, upon any articles imported into such Possession; and if Her Majesty, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, should assent to such Act or Ordinance, Acts or Ordinances, such Duties of Customs should, upon the Proclamation of such assent in the Colony, or at any time thereafter which might be fixed by such Act or Ordinance, be so reduced or repealed in such Possession as if such reduction or repeal had been effected by an Act or Acts of the Imperial Legislature; anything in any Act to the contrary thereof notwithstanding. And whereas it is expedient to repeal all the Duties of Customs imposed by the said Act, passed in the Session of Parliament, holden in the eighth and ninth years of the Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled "An Act to Regulate the Trade of British Possessions "abroad" upon Articles imported into the Colony of British Guiana of Customs 1. Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Repeals Duties British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy under 8 and 9 thereof, that from and after the publication and taking effect of this Vic., c. 93. Ordinance, [Ord. 10 anno 1847.] Ordinance when to take effect. No. VII.-VIII. Ordinance, all and each of the Duties of Customs, imposed by an Act passed in the Session of Parliament, holden in the eighth and ninth years of the Reign of her present Majesty, intituled "An Act to Regulate the Trade of British Possessions Abroad," upon any Articles imported into this Colony, shall be repealed. 2. And be it enacted, that this Ordinance shall not be published nor take effect until Her Majesty, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, shall assent to the same, nor until such assent shall be signified and declared by Proclamation in this Colony. No. VIII. [Ord. 11 anno AN ORDINANCE FOR THE REGULATION OF THE FERRY ACROSS 1847.] THE RIVER DEMERARA AND THE STEAMBOATS THEREOF. Preamble. Act of 21st repealed. Enacted 26th June, 1847, published the 29th following, came into operation on publication. [HENRY LIGHT, Governor.] WHEREAS it has become necessary to alter and amend the Regulations and Tariff of Charges of the Ferry and Ferry-boats plying between the City of Georgetown and the Public Stelling on the west bank of the River Demerara : 1. Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy August, 1828, thereof, that the Act of the Governor and Court of Policy of the 21st August, 1828, entituled "An Act for the Regulation of the "Ferry of the River Demerara and the Steam-boat thereof," shall be, as the same is hereby, repealed, except in so far as said Act shall have repealed any other Act, Ordinance, or Law. 2. That the Steam Ferry-boat shall start from the Ferry Stelling Regulation of in Georgetown on each week day at the respective hours of seven, trip on week nine, and eleven o'clock of the forenoon, and at the respective hours days. of [Ord. 11 anno 1847.] No. VIII. trips. of one, three, and five o'clock of the afternoon, remaining at each trip not less than one quarter of an hour at the western stelling of the river, whether there are passengers or not; and should the ser- Extraordinary vices of the Steam-boat be required by any person or persons in the intermediate periods of the day, on due notice being given verbally to the master or his assistant on board, or by making a signal from the western ferry stelling, the ferryman shall immediately, or as soon as possible, start with or for such person or persons and ferry them across, for which service he shall be entitled, over and above. the ordinary fare, to eight dollars, if such trip shall be between seven o'clock of the forenoon and five o'clock of the afternoon; and to twenty dollars if such trip shall be at any other time; and that, for the foregoing purposes, proper signals shall be established and duly made known by the ferryman. 3.
