THE numerous irregularities and imperfections of our language must be obvious to every one who has endeavoured to acquire a knowledge of it himself, or to teach it to others. There for instance, many words of very different significations, which are pronounced exactly alike others pronounced so nearly alike, as frequently to be mistaken for each other. Some have a different signification according to the seat of wrongly pronounced from inattention of the accent; and they are often to circumstance. Others are spelled alike, but pronounced differently; and in many instances the same word is employed to express very different ideas under different circumstances. Extensive tables, embracing about two thousand of of these irregular of Spelling Book, including a list of synonymous words, and a collection of Latin words and phrases which are frequently used by English writers. As many ny of the ambiguous words require more than the mere sound to distinguish them, they have all been associated with brief but clear definitions, which will enable the pupil more easily to understand and remember them.
