The stamps of types A3, A4 and A5 in the 1923
ssue differ from those of 1915 in many details
which are too small to be successfully illustrated.
In the stamps of 1917 the sky is indicated by ruled
lines, in 1933 it is made of minute dots. In the
1917 issue the tablets in the upper corners and at
bottom have lines in the backgrounds, in 1923 the
backgrounds are of solid color.

Brussels Stamp Exhibition

OLLECTORS will probably be interested in the following advance information, gathered from a letter to our editor from Mr. P. J. Maingay, Hon. General Secretary of the Federation Royale des Cercles Philateliques de Belgique: “The exhibition will be held in the last week of May, 1924, in the magnificent Egmont Palace of Brussels. His Majesty King Albert has kindly agreed to act as Patron to the Exhibition and our Committee of Honor comprises several ministers, the Mayor of Brussels, etc., etc. “For your information I beg to mention that our International Jury is composed of the following gentlemen: Napier; France, M. Langlois, President of the French Federation; Italy, Dr. Diena; Switzerland, Baron de Reuterskiold; Scan

dinavia, Nils Strandell; Spain, Manuel Galvez; Holland, Mr. Manus; United States, to be announced later. As you see,

these are all well known names and most of these gentlemen were also on the London Jury. Since writing you last we have secured the good services of Mr. Anthony de Worms, F. R. P. S. L., London, as our Commissaire Général for Great Britain. “Our French circulars will be sent out this week and the English ones probably a week afterwards. I trust you will allow me to send you a small supply of the latter. • “Now I should like to point out to you that customs formalities here are by no means the same as in France. Stamps come

England, Col

in free without any difficulty whatsoever and there are no formalities at all. As to the magnificent Egmont Palace, where the Exhibition will be held, it presents all se– curity as to the danger of fire. Being a historical palace belonging to the town, it is already being closely watched day and night in ordinary times. During the Exhibition we shall have firemen and special guards in the various halls day and night and everything will be done to protect the stamps, even against too much daylight, for instance. Smoking at the Exhibition will be strictly prohibited. I am glad to say that we have already most important promises from various collectors and there is no doubt whatever that our Exhibition will be A1 in every way.

“Your own very valuable promise to ‘lend a hand is also an important ‘credititem to our Exhibition. An International Stamp Exhibition without the support of the Royal of London and the Collectors' Club of New York does not seem to be feasible, and after reading your letter I am happy to conclude of same that we may also rely upon ‘New York as we can on ‘London’.” \ *

We may add that Dr. J. Brace Chittended, secretary of the Collectors' Club, has agreed to act as Commissaire Général for the United States. We expect to make further announcements about this important exhibition, where we hope philatelists of this country will take a prominent part.
